The Amazing History Of Coffee Beans

Who would have thought that a simple drink can have such an interesting history?  From harvesting of its beans to processing and transporting them, coffee has such an impact to millions of people all over the world.

They say that the history of coffee beans started in Ethiopia and where it was discovered around 500BC.  People who ate the berries of the coffee plant started to notice effects.  It got his name when people brought it to Arabia and cultivated it there as well.

During the 18th century, it spread to different countries, and its popularity grew worldwide particularly in Europe, Asia, Americas, and Middle East.  It was suddenly a popular drink for every social class.  People started to believe that drinking coffee has some health benefits.  Although some of these benefits were just myths, however, science tells us that this drink does have some amazing effects in our body.

Through some scientific studies, it was found out that sperm in mammals often swim faster and have more energy when they are swimming through a liquid with coffee in it.  It is due to the caffeine in the coffee that acts as stimulants for better performance.

Another Harvard study showed that moderate coffee drinking can reduce the effects of diabetes while other tests have also shown that it can protect against cirrhosis of the liver and even decrease asthma attacks.  Antioxidants which are similar to those found in wine, can also be found in coffee.  These are thought to improve the health of your heart.

However, some studies have also shown negative effects to the body as well.  Nerve degeneration can be an effect of long-term use of coffee and if one suddenly stops drinking coffee, the body will crave for caffeine, which can result in sleeplessness.

Nevertheless, whether drinking coffee has good or bad effects, it is still the most popular in the world with over 400 billion cups of coffee consumed every year and almost $9 billion sales annually.  You can tell just how popular this drink is by the invasion of the coffee shops world-wide.  Starbucks, one of the most successful coffee brands, has over 10,000 shops where you can get your daily caffeine fix!

Coffee is also the second most expensive commodity in the world, with oil being the first.  Its price still keeps rising every year.  Even hundreds of years after its discovery, the history of coffee beans shows us that this amazing drink still has a bright future ahead.
