Coffee has played a very important role in people’s lives economically, socio-culturally and most importantly, on Health. Healthwise, this black bean has had a long history of research and is proven to help lower depression risks, fight Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, lower prostate cancer risks, prevent skin cancer, protect us from type 2 diabetes and many more.
With all the advantages and the long proven history of coffee, it has definitely become the “Big Bean” in the market. However, one rookie seems to be challenging the mighty coffee bean. Chia seeds, the seed of very common plant in Southern Mexico believed to have given the ancient Mayans and Aztecs unbelievable health benefits.
People from ancient Mexico drink Chia beverages and add Chia seeds to their food. This was believed to have given them uncanny dexterity, endurance, power and youth, this is why many also had the idea that these people possessed the “Fountain of Youth”.
Similar to drinking coffee, people who drink Chia get the same antioxidants and caffeine. But the difference between the two is that Chia seeds are more densely packed compared to the ordinary coffee bean. An ounce of dried chia seed contains 9% of the Recommended Daily Value for protein, 8% omega-3 fatty acids and 42% dietary fiber as to a daily consumption of 2000 calories the essential minerals phosphorus, manganese, calcium, potassium and sodium.
With all these in mind, I think it’s about time the Coffee Bean stepped down and gave way to the new King.
