Sometimes, the taste of your coffee depends on how your coffee maker works. If your coffee no longer tastes the way it was during the first few days of using your coffee maker, you might think your machine is broken.
Most often, nothing is wrong with your coffee maker except that it has not been cleaned thoroughly. It is not enough to wash the pot as the internal parts of your coffee maker also accumulate oils, mineral deposits and scales, especially if you use hard water for your coffee. These deposits will affect the heating process and water flow of your machine thus changing the taste of your coffee. This is why your favorite morning drink suddenly tastes unpleasant.
One way to clean your coffee maker is to use a mixture of half-cup of white vinegar and half-cup of water. Pour this mixture into the water reservoir of the machine then turn the appliance on like you are making coffee. Rinse out the mixture by using only clean water then turn on again the machine. Repeat this process until the smell of the vinegar disappears.
Another way of cleaning your coffee maker is to use a glass marble. Put a glass marble in the water chamber. The marble will accumulate the scales and oils instead. Once in a while, remove the marble and wash it and put it back in the chamber.
Cleaning your coffee maker properly will not only produce good-tasting coffee but will also prolong the life of your machine.
